Multiscale models in AD help link neuron activity with brain network dynamics

Researchers in the Netherlands have developed multiscale models of the neuronal network hyperactivity seen in patients with Alzheimer’s disease (AD).

Using computational modeling, the researchers simulated multiscale brain dynamics and examined the link between abnormal neuronal behavior and brain network impairment. The model also allowed researchers to alter the level of excitability in inhibitory or excitatory neurons to assess the impact of these changes on overall oscillatory network behavior.
