New findings reported on anti-seizure drug use in real-world and clinical trials

A wide range of studies on the use of anti-seizure medications was presented at the AES 2020 virtual conference, including real-world use and clinical trials.

Researchers from the University of Toledo College of Medicine analyzed the electronic records of a specialist epilepsy center to report comparative efficacy data on the real-world use of levetiracetam, lamotrigine, lacosamide, and topiramate as monotherapy.

Data from 929 patients currently receiving monotherapy showed that:

  • 17.5% were receiving levetiracetam, 11.4% lamotrigine, 3.1% lacosamide, and 3.8% topiramate
